“Have your eyes and your heart always fixed on Jesus in the Eucharist….

he will show you the way”.

In the bloom of youth, her filial duty and concern for her widowed father, General Joaquin Riquelme, prevents her from dedicating herself fully to the ideas the Divine Spirit inspires deep inside her.  However, she trusted in God and patiently waited for God’s plan to be fulfilled.

Madre Emilia Riquelme y  Zayas  was that strong woman who knew how to live an intense interior life. She lived in a total commitment to God serving her brothers and sisters in the human family. She was and still is a faithful witness of the Gospel message.

After Maria Emilia’s Father Death, she pursues to follow the divine voice of the Holy Spirit and sends to build a convent with a chapel in the center of the house where the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament can be adored.  She puts her trust also in the hands of Mary that this work may please her Son. She then writes a motto for the new congregation:

“Sweetness and Charity; cheerful and voluntary immolation for the Glory of God and the Good of all men”  “I am determined aided by Mary Immaculate to follow Christ up hill, in spite of my bleeding feet”.

On March 25, 1896, the same day the church celebrates the Incarnation of the Word in the womb of the Virgen Mary, Maria Emilia, following God’s call said “YES” and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and Mary Immaculate.

She said: “I was able to follow the rewarding divine impulse, despising the world, the human respect, and losing my poor nothingness in God, who was always my Everything”.

Marie Emilia centered her life on the Eucharist and taught us to do the same. Today we are approximately 250 sisters throughout the world and we continue to live Maria Emilia’s ideal.

Keep your gaze and your heart always fixed on Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He will show you the right path”. (M. Emilia)

The Eucharist is the center of our consecrated life. From the perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we conformed ourselves to Jesus Christ receiving from him his strength and wisdom to spread his Good News till the end of the world.

Our special love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother under the title of the Immaculate Conception is an essential part of our charism.

“The Eucharist and Mary Immaculate are two mysteries which are intimately related; both are inseparable”.  (Constitutions)

Finally, these two great loves, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and Mary Immaculate, impulse us to serve others and to share the joy of been loved. For this reason:

“The Zeal of the Missionary Sisters does not know any frontier,

but embraces the whole world”.

Our Congregation is spread in many countries:

  • South América (Brasil, Bolivia, Colombia, Perú)
  • África (Angola)

We wish to be Jesus’ extension, as food, strength, and consolation to our brothers and sisters” (Constitutions)
